On board specialist on public health matters responsible for training the department managers and crew, onboard the ship, on public health matters and monitoring policies, procedures, and record keeping to see that the operation complies with all applicable national (VSP) (SHIPSAN) and international laws.
Supervise implementation of public health procedures for vessel sanitation and see that the vessel are operated in compliance with applicable national (VSP) and international laws.
Chair monthly Sanitation Committee Meetings and communicate issues and their resolution in a timely manner.
Coordinate weekly Sanitation Inspections onboard (including random inspections as needed) to monitor compliance with the Vessel Sanitation Program and recommend corrective action in these areas: Food Safety, Personnel (including training, personal habits, hand washing, etc.), Food (including handling, storage and temperature control, etc.), Equipment (including cleaning, sanitizing, logs and checklists, etc.), Toilet and Hand washing Facilities, Facilities, Public Health, Housekeeping, Laundry, Wardrobe areas (chemical storage, filters cleaning, etc.), Entertainment and Youth Activities Areas, Vista Spa and Salon area.
Works closely with the Senior 1st Steward to provide guidance, direction and feedback to see that all stewarding duties are completed.
Sees that personnel files for the positions under them in the chain of command are maintained (working with Human Resources).
See that the following required logs, records and checklists are maintained: Sanitation logs and checklists, HAACP logs and checklists, Temperature logs and checklists, Equipment maintenance logs and checklists.
Train required officers and crew on current (and newly developed) public health regulations and responsibilities.
Implement Pest Management program by contractor and ship personnel: Labeling, storage, safe application, routine bating/spraying schedule.
Monitors sanitation and local waste management activities.
Reviews and signs required logs and checklists, noting any issues or required actions.
Provides professional and social guidance to subordinates by exemplary personal behavior.
